More time with Professor Peabody and his wayback machine going to a Thomas Hardy's Ale tasting
The afternoon began with a set of 2008, 07, and 06. All quite tasty but 2007 was the most pleasing to my palate.
Then we hopped back over a decade and went at the 1994, 93, and 91. To my surprise the 94 walked away with the honors of this grouping.
Then we flashed back to the 80's with an 89, 88, and 86. 1986 was the year Jerry Garcia went into a coma and now I know the real reason. I was feeling slightly comatose myself.
Undaunted it was even further that the way back machine took us. 81, 77, and 74. I have to confess at this point I was unable to select a favorite. Each one had me doing a jig.
To cap off the vintage tasting was a 1977 Traquair House scotch ale. I was a little worried how it would stack up and I was pleasantly surprised. By the looks of the picture I think I need to level off my counter. I don't believe it could have been me!

I need a little more detail as to how these brews tasted. You actually drank a beer bottled before STAR WARS was released.
I meant to takes notes but got too caught up in the moment. The variances in aroma, color, and taste were minimal yet yet wide. Appearance went from caramel brow. The aromas all had a hint of anise and candy sugar. The ones from the 70's you could smell the cellar. It was strange how it got into the bottle. The taste was where the broadest spectrum was. The older the more mellow. A constant of black licorice ran thru them all but once into the early 80's and the 70's a cognac essence to it. An amazing thing was the carbonation in the older years. T.H. ale is not a highly carbonated beer to begin with, but when pouring the earlier years a slight yet quickly dissipating head did appear. If I could afford it I would do it again.
addendum: I know why I didn't take tasting notes. Drinking beer is a joy not a task.
Good dispatch and this post helped me alot in my college assignement. Thank you for your information.
