It has been another day of barley wines and the Grateful Deal. Hence the Grateful Dead Barley Wine Weekend. Speaking of grateful, thank you Veggie Jimmie for putting that salve on my virus. Yeah my laptop got infected. Better than my lap. No dancing please.
So as for last nites beers. Whoa what a tight race. Smelling and tasting as the beers were poured out of the refrigerator and then as they warmed caused many changes in the lead positions. The two constants were Dog Fish Head and Victory. Of the eight both remained as the bottom two. As for aromas of the top six, Horn Dog from Great Divide in CO won regarless of temp. 2nd and 3rd were Old Foghorn, the classic from Anchor Brewing in SF CA, and Back Burner from Southern Tier out of Lakewood NY.
When it came to taste it wasn't so clear cut. Even Stone's Old Guardian changed/got better as it warmed. Moylan's Old Blarney was up to Moylans high standards. Pikes Old Bawdy (the only 2007 of the batch, all others were 09) was a real dum dum. You know, like the bullet. Comes in clean and leaves you ripped. That is the first of the inseperable top four along with the Old Foghorn, Horn Dog, and moving to the front of the stove is the Back Burner. All four of these will do you right..and then some.
Now for the top Dead track of the weekend... (so far) Smokestack Lightnin' from 3/25/72 Academy of Music NYC.
