Sympathy for the Devil Part III

Every year about tax time I do this little sympathy for the devil bit. If you look back for the past two years Feb. post you will run across them. Well I did my taxes as the law dictates, and I must say that I am very unhappy. My dreams of getting Trippin Tees up and running this year are temporarily dashed, and other things on the back burner will have to simmer a little longer. But to put a smile on the face of a CPA at the IRS at the bottom of the form where it ask for your occupation I put Uncle Sams Whore.

A question was raised in my head as I did them this year. Charitable deductions? Coincidentally I had just made a donation to a local organization that I knew would result in immediate benefits to those in need. My first reaction as I filled out my 1040 was "I should have gotten a receipt then next years wont suck so bad". I never ask for one because I never saw a need for it. I don't know if it is a dollar for dollar deduction, but I suppose any bit would help. But what is the point of charity? Is it to gain fiscally? In my mind, no. It is sad that the only reason many give to various organizations is both for ego and economic reasons. Why not do it just to make yourself and someone else smile. I'm glad I didn't get a receipt.
