ADVICE FOR MANAGERS

As many of you know I have a job that I hate.(obviously not the one I just quit) Waking up at 3:30 in the a.m. for low pay and even lower hours. Of course poverty compels (or is it impels?) me to go in every day. Once there things are out of my control. As much as I want to I cannot locate my off switch. As with my previous job the more efficient I am the fewer hours/less pay I get. But wait, I have to go back about a month or so. I went out to the mailbox and received a card from a local address. My mind wasn't computing properly so I had to open it to figure out who it came from. It was a thank you card from my supervisor, not even a manager, expressing his gratitude for the effort I give. Then this a.m. as I was heading out he called "Hey Paul", I gave him my usual glare, "Thank you". I admit that I don't work the way I do because of him. I guess it is a bit of an addiction or channeled anger. None the less it is nice to know that your supervisor TRULY appreciates what you do. None of that shallow see through shit straight out business management books diarrhea. I'll still jump ship at the first sighting of a life raft, but there wont be that bad taste in the mouth or feeling of contempt.

So my advice for managers is don't say thank you if you don't mean it. We realize that what you really mean is "thank you for getting me that bonus". If you're going to be an asshole be honest enough to shit on us and then see if you get your bonus. I know, most of you don't care, just as long as that check clears. I am surprised that there aren't daily reports on the news of bosses being killed. Think about it, there are as many, nay more lousy bosses as there are days in the year. Maybe all we need is a couple weeks of "Boss Killed By Under Appreciated Worker" headlines.

Get to work Aaron, we'll be proud of you.
